Hgtv Junkie

By Carl Kinnebrew

I have logged in so many hours of HGTV in the past few years, that I feel they should issue me some sort of degree in home improvement. I finally got brave enough to take on the project of vinyl siding my house. It couldn’t be too hard, after all, they do it on television in about a half hour.

I went to my local home improvement center to choose some vinyl siding material. There are several home siding colors available, but we had already decided to go with white. Our home improvement center had a wide variety of vinyl siding colors available and it was tempting to choose a color, but my wife said no.

We had checked around for the average cost of vinyl siding, and our home improvement center was very competitive. The home improvement sales clerk figured the amount of siding that I needed per my measurements. He also figured the vapor barrier, nails, etc. I was all set as soon as they deliver the materials.

Meantime I began to remove the aluminum siding that was presently on the house. Here is where things started to go wrong. I discovered that there was asbestos siding underneath the aluminum siding. I needed to contact a contractor that does asbestos siding removal. This doesn’t come cheap. I had to get a permit to have it removed and disposed of.

After all of the siding was removed, I decided that this project was going to be too much for me to handle. I hired a siding contractor and hit the couch to watch some more HGTV.

Things look a lot easier on television than they actually are in real life. The next time that I think about undergoing a project like this, I should relax and go get another beer.
